- The core in earth science, is the innermost
- part of the Earth. It is divided into an
- inner core, the upper boundary of
- which is 1,700km (1,060 miles) from the
- centre, and an outer core, 1,820km
- (1,130 miles thick). Both parts are thought
- to consist of iron nickel alloy, with the
- inner core being solid and the outer core
- being semi-solid.
