  2. part of the Earth. It is divided into an 
  3. inner core, the upper boundary of
  4. which is 1,700km (1,060 miles) from the 
  5. centre, and an outer core, 1,820km
  6. (1,130 miles thick). Both parts are thought
  7. to consist of iron nickel alloy, with the
  8. inner core being solid and the outer core 
  9. being semi-solid.
